Bee Network passes 500 electric buses in Greater Manchester

Operating fleet reaches a new milestone

More than 500 electric buses in Greater Manchester were operating by 16 October 2026, Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) reported. The milestone Wrightbus vehicle entered service following delivery to Stagecoach’s Oldham depot.

In its 16 October fleet announcement, TfGM compared the operating total with 35 electric buses before franchising began.

TfGM also reported 99 entirely electric services and another 46 routes partially served by electric buses.

Depot electrification in Oldham and Manchester

TfGM said electrification work at Oldham depot was completed in summer 2026, following work at Hyde Road in Manchester. Its October announcement reported both depots as electrified.

Earlier Wrightbus orders in context

Wrightbus supplied procurement background in its announcement dated 28 May 2026. The manufacturer recorded an order for 125 buses, comprising 100 for Metroline and 25 for Stagecoach.

That announcement followed a separate March order for 55 buses. These electric bus orders belong to the purchasing timeline.

Electric bus orders therefore cannot simply be added to the more-than-500 operating total. The May release does not establish how many vehicles from either earlier order were in service by 16 October, or how many were already included in TfGM’s figure.

What remains planned for 2030

TfGM’s October announcement referred to around 160 further buses, specifying 163 in its body text.

The completed depot work allows those 163 further buses to be delivered and put into service, according to TfGM.

Bee Network electrification remains directed towards a fully electric fleet by 2030, according to TfGM’s October announcement.

Questions about the fleet milestone

When was the 500-electric-bus milestone announced?

TfGM reported more than 500 electric buses in Greater Manchester on 16 October 2026. The milestone vehicle was built by Wrightbus and entered service following delivery to Stagecoach’s Oldham depot.

Does every Bee Network service now use only electric buses?

No. TfGM reported 99 entirely electric services and another 46 routes partially served by electric buses on 16 October 2026.

Can the earlier electric bus orders be added to the operating total?

No. Wrightbus’s March and May 2026 electric bus orders do not establish how many of those vehicles were operating in October. Adding them could count vehicles twice.

When is the Bee Network aiming for a fully electric fleet?

TfGM’s October 2026 announcement retained a fully electric fleet target for 2030. This remains a future objective rather than a completed conversion.
